These are just some of the symptoms associated with autism – a broad spectrum of disorders. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s something that affects an estimated 1 in 100 people in the U.K, but it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not an epidemic. Autism is not caught or transferred between us, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s something we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re born with. <\/span><\/p>\n
Autism has been around for a long time, and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s something that has inevitably shaped human history. Some of the greatest minds were autistic, including Mozart and Einstein. You\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve probably heard about the man who recently <\/span>recited pi to 22,514 decimal places<\/span><\/a>. People with autism can achieve incredible things\u00c2\u00a0but often require a little extra support.<\/span><\/p>\n
To celebrate World Autism Awareness Week, Theatre Bookings is proud to announce that \u00c2\u00a31 from every ticket sold (for any show) in March & April will be donated to the <\/strong><\/span>National Autistic Society<\/a><\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0– in celebration of World Autism Awareness Week (2 – 8 April) and World Autism Awareness Day (2nd April).<\/span><\/p>\n
The <\/span>National Autistic Society<\/span><\/a> promotes awareness of autism and offers a number of support services to over 100,000 people with autism each year. Currently they are campaigning to give every teacher autism training to help them identify and offer support to students on the autistic spectrum. Lend your support by <\/span>signing the open letter<\/span><\/a> or <\/span>making a donation<\/span><\/a>. If you or someone around you wants to talk about autism join <\/span>their online community<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
But what has autism got to do with theatre? The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a <\/span>best-selling book by British author<\/span><\/a> Mark Haddon about a boy with mild autism investigating the death of his neighbour\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s poodle. The novel takes the form of a written school assignment and gives genuine insight on an autistic mind.\u00c2\u00a0The book has been adapted for the stage to critical acclaim<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
