As August draws to a close that only tells us one thing…summer is over! That means it’s time to go back to school, go back to work – and wave goodbye to the tiny bit of sun we had here in London. But fear not, as things get colder and the days get darker, there is even more reason to head inside and see some fantastic brand new theatre opening here in the West End! Autumn and winter sees some fantastic new productions opening, and we’ve got the details on all of them! These are our Top 5 shows coming opening soon.
Big – The Musical
Dominion Theatre
Based on the smash hit film starring Tom Hanks – this brand new musical is set to be… BIG! Starring Jay McGuinness (Strictly/Rip it Up) as Josh Baskin – a twelve year old boy who wishes more than anything else in the world that he could grow up – but when just that happens, he realises that adult life isn’t all it’s he hoped and wished it would be! Running for 9 weeks only – this huge hearted production is not to be missed. Opening 6th September 2019.
The Man in the White Suit
Wyndhams Theatre’s
Adapted & directed by two time Olivier award winner Sean Foley – we are taken on a fast paced comedy adventure with Sidney Stratton played by Stephen Mangham (Episodes) – a man who has invented a fabric that neither stains nor wears! Based on the hit classic starring Alec Guinness – this show has it all! Featuring fourteen original songs to flying effects, and even clog dancing! This hilarious production is opening 27th September.
Noises Off
Garrick Theatre
After a five star run at the Lyric Hammersmith – Michael Frayn’s classic show comes to the West End. Noises Off takes us behind the scenes of a company of actors, hilariously portraying the bonkers world that is theatre. Considered one the funniest plays of all time, this is another comedy not to be missed. Opening September 27th.
Mary Poppins
Prince Edward Theatre
As Aladdin leaves the Prince Edward after a fantastic run – we welcome another world famous favourite back to London! With this classic musical returning to its original home – this stage adaptation is produced by Cameron Mackintosh, and brings together to fantastic Zizi Strallen (Strictly Ballroom) & Charlie Stemp (Half a Sixpence). This beloved musical is sure to be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Opening 23rd October.
Death of a Salesman
Piccadilly Theatre
Another world famous production coming to our stages, this time in the form of Arthur Miller’s timeless classic. This production took the critics by storm at the Young Vic this year, and it comes to London starring Wendell Pierce as the iconic leading role of Willy Loman. This heartbreaking tale of the truth behind the American dream – boasts a stellar cast and creative team, and is opening 24th October.
