About The Show
The Mousetrap at St Martin's Theatre is not so much a theatre production as a theatrical phenomenon. This historic production by has broken all box office records since it first opened in the West End in 1952 and has witnessed over 25,000 productions. It has been likened to Madame Tussaud's and the Changing of the Guard in terms of its cultural significance to the capital; a claim few can deny as it continues apace with no sign of old age through its 62nd Anniversary.
The synopsis follows the premise of trapping the protagonists of this thriller in a remote guest house called Monkswell Manor. The guest house is unavoidably snowed in when suddenly a murder is committed – thereby signalling that the murderer is among the guests. No one is what they seem. No one can get out. No one can contact the outside world.
Written by Agatha Christie (who predicted the production would run for a paltry eight months) The Mousetrap contains one of the most infamous plot twists ever penned in world dramaturgy and the audience are reminded at the beginning of the performance never to reveal a word to the outside world.
