MJ the Musical is a jukebox musical based on the life of one of the greatest entertainers of all time, Michael Jackson. The show is currently playing at the Prince Edward Theatre.

With a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and choreography by Tony Award-winning director/ Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, MJ takes the audience behind the scenes of Jackson’s 1992 Dangerous World Tour. The new musical features some of Jackson’s most iconic songs in music history including Beat It, Billie Jean, Man in the Mirror, Bad, Thriller, and Smooth Criminal.

MJ was first scheduled to open on Broadway in 2020 but was postponed for obvious reasons. The production went on to open at the Neil Simon Theatre in February 2022 with Myles Frost leading the cast as Michael Jackson himself. The show was a box office success and went on to receive 10 Tony Award nominations including Best Musical.

The production went on to win 4 Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical for Frost, Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design, and Best Sound Design. The original cast recording was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. The Broadway production of the musical has now grossed over $190 million and has been seen by over 1.2 million people.

The musical then went on to open in the West End at the Prince Theatre in March 2024 with Myles Frost reprising his role as Jackson.

The full MJ company includes Derek Aidoo, Morgan Baulch, Milan Cacacie, Spencer Darlaston-Jones, Hanna Dimtsu, Aden Dzuda, Marie Finlayson, Christopher Gopaul, Kalisha Johnson, Grace Kanyamibwa, Travis Kerry, Dianté Lodge, Simeon Montague, George Ross, Lydia Sterling, Toyan Thomas-Browne, Taylor Walker, Charlotte-Kate Warren and Tavio Wright.

Also appearing are Jaydon Eastman, Elliot Mugume, Ethan Sokontwe, and Dylan Trigger as Little Michael, with Cristiano Cuino, Sekhani Dumezweni, Khanya Madaka, and Aidan Oti as Little Marlon.
