The West End Flea Market smashed their own fundraising record this weekend. The event raised £110,000 for charity Acting For Others. This means they beat last year’s record by nearly £40,000!
The fundraiser took place in Covent Garden at St Paul’s Church on Saturday 17th May. Acting For Others is a Charity which raises emotional and financial support for all theatre workers. Whether they are on or off the stage anyone who works and contributes to theatre in anyway can receive the charities support.
Most of the West End productions took part in this year’s West End Flea Market. Shows participated by setting up stalls which sold merchandise, cup cakes, coffee and carnival style games. It is an extremely wholesome event in which most of the west end shows took part. This included stalls from Back to The Future, Cabaret, Clueless, Hadestown, Hamilton, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia!, Mean Girls, Moulin Rouge!, The Phantom of the Opera, SIX The Musical, The Book of Mormon, The Devil Wears Prada, The Mousetrap, The Play That Goes Wrong, Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, Titanique and many more.
The West End Flea Market also had an autograph tent! Not only could you nab signatures from icons such as Arlene Phillips and Christopher Biggins, but also from some of your favourite west end cast members. For example, Simon Lipkin (Oliver), Clare Foster (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) Grace Mouat (Mean Girls) where just some of the West End Stars who attended.
There were some auctions on they day which included an iconic script. Mean Girls auctioned of a script of the musical signed by the famous writer and actress responsible for the iconic film turned musical, Tina Fey. If you missed out on the auction, they have extended The West End Flea Market online Auction until 23rd May! If you take part you could win props and signed merchandise from the cast of Hadestown and Wicked. What’s more, The Phantom Of The Opera donated a gorgeous limited edition company jacket to the auction.
